2008 Road to Recovery Tour

Mark Cashman's 2008 Road to Recovery Bicycle Tour to raise money for the Mission's New Faith Family Center has been pushed back due to some training and health issues. A new date will be announced soon. When he departs, he will be traveling approximately 300 miles, leaving from New Faith and heading toward the Berkshires, and then continuing down to Connecticut, returning 4 days later.
He will be checking the blog periodically up to the day he departs, so please leave him encouraging words and thoughts that he can take with him.

If you would like to support Mark on his journey please visit our DONATE page and type "Bike Tour" in the Designated For area. Thank you!

A message from Mark: With all the thunderstorms we've had lately, training opportunities haven't been plentiful. With only 2 weeks to go, I don't feel ready. He is the Vine; I'm merely a branch. Without Him, I can do nothing. God frequently reminds me of my inadequacy without His enabling. "Not by might nor by power, but by My Spirit," says the Lord of hosts. Zechariah was instructed to encourage Zerubbabel that he would be empowered to finish what he had started [Zech 4:6]. Please pray that like Zerubbabel, I would be empowered to finish what I start, to the glory of God, and for the ladies of New Faith.

You will certainly be in everyone's prayers here at the Mission, Mark! I would like to thank you on behalf of the ladies at New Faith for your dedication and hard work. Remember, "I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me." Phillipians 4:13

Dear Mark,

Thank you so much for your willingness to serve, humbly, many times without recognition. We appreciate your service and willingness so much. Many times when one of the women is desperate for a ride somewhere -- your name comes up and we are so thankful for your willingness to love and serve our women in so many ways. We will encourage the women to pray for you-- and we will be praying for you as well.

Father-- We lift up Mark and thank you that since he is doing this in your name, you are going to provide the energy and grace that he needs to get through it. I ask that it would be a time when he can connect with you and grow in perseverance. Knowing that You are the one who enables us to do more than all we can ask or imagine through your power working in us. Encourage Mark today. Thanks Father, Amen

You're in our thoughts and prayers! Thank You! God bless you!!

A message from Mark: Rarely does a day go by, that I don't pray for New Faith residents and/or staff members. I believe in what you're doing. I enjoy praying for and with you, and bonding with the children. Lives are being transformed and God is getting the glory. I'm 80% packed and the bike is almost ready. I'm contemplating starting on Tuesday, July 1 instead of Wednesday, July 2. This will allow me to split the mileage into three days instead to two, making the Berkshire Mountains much more manageable.

A message from Mark: The Road to Recovery Tour is being postponed because of a training setback. I rode a 68 mile training ride in the heat on Saturday, the 28th. Sunday I was sick. I was treated at Ellis Hospital, Sunday night for dehydration. I'm recuperating today. The doctor at Ellis urged me to avoid overly ambitious rides for the next few days, so that means I have to put off the tour. The blessing is that I'll have more time to train, at a more gradual rate, and that I'll have time to work out the mechanical issues with the bike. The new date for the tour will be announced.

A message from Mark: It’s time to bring closure to the 2008 Road to Recovery Tour, but not in the way I had hoped. After ongoing, unresolved health issues, I’ve concluded that I will not be able to ride a bicycle tour this year, and so I’m cancelling the Road to Recovery Tour for 2008. I’m struggling with this. I prefer to finish what I start, but I’m coming to realize that my pride is what makes me that way. God is sovereign; I am not. His will be done. Mark Hall, of Casting Crowns once said that God doesn’t need us; He wants us. I would add that, God only wants us on His terms. He knows what He’s doing. To those of you who’ve already donated to New Faith Family Center because of this tour, I thank you and hope that your contribution wasn’t conditional upon my completion of the tour, and that you have no regrets. To those of you who haven’t yet made a contribution, I encourage you to prayerfully consider doing so, even though I’m not riding. To all of you, let me assure you that your money is going where God will put it to good use. I believe in what Nancy Dore and her staff are doing.
To Perry and Sue Jones, to Mandy Schettini, to Nancy Dore and her staff and to the residents of New Faith, I feel I’ve let you down, and for that, I am sorry. Again, I’m convinced that God knows what He’s doing. To Him be the glory. God bless you all!

Thanks for the update, Mark. I'm sorry that you are unable to ride, but God had other plans and I'm sure it is for the best. And even though this trip didn't turn out how you would have liked, I would just like to thank you on behalf of New Faith for all the hard work you put into it. God bless you!
